The Middlesex Fells Reservation, aka "The Fells", borders Winchester and is comprised of over 2,200 acres of forest, wetlands, and rugged hills and you can regularly find thousands of visitors each day hiking, biking, dog walking and enjoying family time in this forested haven.
Family Fun Activities
One of the most enjoyable ways to spend time outdoors in Winchester is at the historic Wright-Locke Farm. The farm, which dates back to the origins of the town, offers opportunities for visitors to walk through the farmhouse and fields and also hosts events for kids and adults. Of course, they also sell organic fruits, vegetables, flowers, eggs and other products. This farm is a fun and healthy activity for the whole family.

In Winchester there are endless ways to be active and enjoy the great outdoors. A portion of the Middlesex Fells Reservation is in Winchester, which provides more than 100 miles of trails for all types of activities including hiking, biking, horseback riding and more. There are several bodies of water within the public recreation area and offer opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, and other types of boating. Another trail to enjoy in Winchester is the Tri-Community Greenway. This nearly 7-mile trail spans several area towns, running through downtown Winchester, providing options for multiple uses including walking, running, biking, and more.

There are many other ways to get outside including options for swimming and summer fun at Shannon Beach and Borggaard Beach, which also houses a splash park. In the winter months, Winter Pond offers area residents and visitors the option of ice skating.
